Sarajevo: Best city in the World

In this post I wanted to express my love of Sarajevo as the best city in the world. It is an amazing and culturally diverse place, when travelling to Europe you must visit Bosnia and Herzegovina. I wanted to explain in more detail about the city.....

My photo of a beautiful view from a restaurant up the hill from the city centre.

Centre of Old Town of Sarajevo: Bascarsija

As Wikipedia explains: 'Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Nestled within the greater Sarajevo valley of Bosnia, it is surrounded by the Dinaric Alps and situated along the Miljacka River in the heart of Southeastern Europe and the BalkansSarajevo is the leading political, social and cultural centre of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a prominent centre of culture in the Balkans, with its region-wide influence in entertainment, media, fashion, and the arts.'

Sadly, and as many people know, there was a war between 1992- 1996, known as the Siege of Sarajevo.

This is how a lot of people probably associate memory with Sarajevo, however there is a lot more to offer and

it is a great place to visit. Of course-we should never forget the war and the importance of showing our support

 to the country.

'The Siege of Sarajevo was the longest siege of a capital city in the history of modern warfare.[3] After being initially besieged by the forces of the Yugoslav People's ArmySarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was besieged by the Army of Republika Srpska from 5 April 1992 to 29 February 1996 (1,425 days) during the Bosnian War. The siege lasted three times longer than the Battle of Stalingrad and more than a year longer than the Siege of Leningrad.'

Whatever the reasons for war....Sarajevo needs to be remembered for more than just that. It is a beautiful city, nestled in the mountains. When you are there you feel as though you are somewhere truly special in the world, where West meets East and where urban meets nature.

If you can make it to the Film Festival in August, it is an exciting, buzzing city, full of life!

The 1984 winter Olympics in Sarajevo were part of the more positive past....

There is so much more I could tell you....but go and research, explore and see it for yourself. Travel through Europe, you could adventure and drive along the coast in Croatia ....through the mountains.....up along the turquoise Neretva river to magical Sarajevo.

Hello again!

I feel inspired to do another blog...in the space of one week! I have so many memories to share, I couldn't help but write again.

I just came back from spending time in Croatia, including staying in Makarska and the Island of Korcula. I love the places there by the sea and it's one of my favourite countries to visit!

They make some of the best wines in Croatia. This make of wine, 'Plavac' is amazing...I also recommend white wine called Grk.

Apparently he went to Korcula too....!

Small place we stayed in on Korcula Island....Brna.

As usual...I think the pictures speak for themselves!

I'll be back soon,

Dear all,

It has been a long time...I know! Where to begin?

I do feel as though I have been extremely lucky, particularly to be able to travel to Croatia and to Bosnia Herzegovina.  I will post images of my travels, (with perhaps some inspirational messages for you if you are also looking for your own 'spiritual' path!)

City of Sarajevo.....I recommend it to anyone. Tourists do not go there enough!

The beautiful mountains near Sarajevo....

A view of the city from a (slightly secret) cafe above.....

Found an amazing vintage bar in the city centre (on the left of the 'vatra' memorial) French style

Sarajevo is an amazing city, go an explore it! Explore the beauties of Bosnia...the war was long ago. There is so much to see and explore, and it is also a lot cheaper than most tourist places in the World at the moment. Just look at this view, taken from a restaurant in Sarajevo city!

And if you venture a bit further from the city of Sarajevo....a beautiful place called 'Konjic'.

I think the images say it all!

Until next time,

Ines
